Summary:

Senior Network/Systems Engineer responsible for local and wide area networking, network security, Cisco network infrastructure, desktop support, Microsoft Exchange and Active Directory administration. Experienced in managing environments of up to 60 servers (Microsoft 2003, 2000 and NT) in an Active Directory environment, and supporting 1,000+ users nationwide. Knowledge of security principles, and extensive use of Nokia firewalls (CheckPoint software), URL filtering (Websense), VPN devices (Nortel), anti-spam (MailEssentials and MailSecurity), and Symantec anti-virus and intrusion detection packages (including honeypots). Experienced using Dell Open Mange, IBM Director, Dameware, VNC, and other desktop management tools. Extensive use with SynBack and other file synchronization scripting programs.

 

Employment History

State of Connecticut , Rocky Hill, CT – September 2005 to July 2007

•  As a Senior Network Engineer consultant, performed a security audit, upgraded Windows 2000 domain to Windows 2003, installed and configured Exchange 2003, and designed migration plan from Novell GroupWise to Microsoft Exchange. Implemented the security and migration plans, and cross-trained state personnel on security, Active Directory, Exchange, and general Windows environment maintenance.

 

Risk Management Solutions, Inc., Hackensack , NJ – 2004 to June 2005

•  As a Senior Network Engineer consultant, diagrammed the network from both local and wide-area viewpoints, pinpointing security problems and recommending solutions. Implemented a comprehensive Disaster Recovery Plan for RMS.com, a vital internet portal for internal and external communications for RMS, requiring 24-hour accessibility and security.

 

Cuno, Incorporated, Meriden , Conn. – 2000 to 2004

•  As a Senior Network Engineer , managed 60 servers in six geographical locations, and supported international operations in eight countries, including VPN and other network security infrastructures.

•  Took the company from six servers and 450 users using Novell and Groupwise across frame-relay to 60 servers and 1,000 users worldwide using Windows Active Directory, Microsoft Exchange, and fully meshed EVPN/VPN networking from AT&T.

•  Supported more than 100 remote users nationwide with AT&T and Nortel VPN services and Blackberry connectivity, including Exchange Web Access.

•  Designed and implemented Cuno's Active Directory schema and Microsoft Exchange environments.

 

Allstate Insurance Company, Chicago and Farmington , Conn. – 1996 to 2000

•  As a Senior Network Analyst and team member for Allstate's redesigned Underwriting NT Workstation, including hardware and software implementation and installation nationwide.

•  Transitioned users and machines from Windows 3.x to Windows 95 and Windows NT as part of a team responsible for Allstate Insurance Company's nationwide retooling in 1997.

•  As Northeast Region Sales Support Supervisor, managed 11 people responsible for supporting nearly 1,500 agents in six states.

 

United States Marine Corps, worldwide – 1976 to 1996

•  Planned and implemented Marine Corps' Chicago-area public relations involvement 1992-1996, including Democratic National Convention, six major air shows, and four multi-state Naval ship visits.

•  Managed groups from three to 22 in support of public relations, and other related fields.

 

Information Systems Management

•  Sixteen year's experience in local and wide-area networks utilizing Token Ring, Ethernet, frame-relay, VPN, EVPN, T-1 and point-to-point technologies.

•  Experienced administrator of Windows Server 2003, 2000, NT, and Novell operating systems.

•  Migrated Cuno's 450 employees from Novell GroupWise to Microsoft Exchange, managing the process from mailbox migration through teaching Outlook classes. The company grew to more than 1,000 users within three years.

•  More than 20 year's experience in PC repair and maintenance, including data recovery, CPU and system upgrades, and component replacement. Frequently provided low-cost solutions for system malfunctions, thus decreasing down-time, increasing office productivity and containing costs.

•  Performed routine and emergency server maintenance, network operating system diagnosis, and ensured data integrity/backup, essential to the performance of operations sections.

•  Designed, programmed and implemented a home page on the World Wide Web for Marine Corps Recruiting using interactive Hypertext Markup Language.

•  Demonstrated capabilities in matching company needs and assets with the most cost-effective computing systems solutions.

•  Master of Science in Information Technology (concentrating on security) from Capella University, designated a National Center of Academic Excellence in Information Assurance Education by the National Security Agency and Homeland Security (graduated 2006).

•  Masters in Public Administration from the University of Oklahoma (graduated in 1995).
